Movies at the Library

Three films are showing for free at the libraries this week. ‘Ewa Beach Public and School Library honors Banned Books week by showing Easy A and James and the Giant Peach (yes, Roald Dahl’s story was once banned for being too scary, promoting disobedience and mysticism). In Hawai‘i Kai, kids can watch Kermit and friends counter an international crime caper in Muppets Most Wanted.

Behind the Scenes tour at Waikiki Aquarium

Every second and fourth Tuesday of the month at 3 p.m., learn what makes the Aquarium run, from fish food to quaran­tine, and many stops in between. Climb up and peer into the exhibits and see how they are created. Visit the Coral Farm where coral is propagated and see the animals before they go on exhibit. Mini­mum age 7 years; youngsters must be accompanied by an adult.

Art in the Park

Art in the Park is a drop-in art program every Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Children will explore a variety of art media through three open-ended art activities that encourage children to nurture their creative spirit. The cost is $1 per child with Center admission, or $3 per child without Center admission. Call 524-KIDS (5437) for more information.

Bishop Museum: Scream Machines Exhibit

The Bishop Museum's exhibit Scream Machines: The Science of Roller Coasters features interactive stations and hands-on activities. Kids will learn about the science behind roller coasters and what makes them work. And, they'll also get to experience the thrill of riding in some of the world's best roller coasters by viewing the ride on a large screen from the seat of a roller coaster car.
