Behind the Scenes tour at Waikiki Aquarium

Every second and fourth Tuesday of the month at 3 p.m., learn what makes the Aquarium run, from fish food to quaran­tine, and many stops in between. Climb up and peer into the exhibits and see how they are created. Visit the Coral Farm where coral is propagated and see the animals before they go on exhibit. Mini­mum age 7 years; youngsters must be accompanied by an adult.

Chinese New Year Celebration at the Library

Learn how to prepare Chinese New Year’s dishes from Leonora Ching. Participants will have a chance to taste dish samples and notebooks will be provided for note taking. There will be fun games, crafts, and snacks for the kids and the evening will end with a lion dance performance and demonstration by the Phung family.   Tuesday, Feb. 9; 6 p.m. - 8 p.m.

Keiki Day at Waimea Valley

In 2016, Waimea Valley will offer free admission to kamaaina kids 12 years and younger for the first time ever.  In addition to access to the swimming hole, games, botanical garden and more, there will be additional educational games and demonstrations which could include tours, hula, crafts, music and storytelling with the park's kupuna.

Kindergarten Readiness Storytimes

Children ages 4 and 5 and their caregivers are welcome to participate in stories, songs, rhymes and hands-on activities. Learn simple early literacy skill practices to bring home and incorporate with your child. Each Storytime will be followed by interaction stations that connect adults and children through activities that correspond to that week’s early literacy skill practice.

Kiawe Bean Workshop at the Library

Taste and learn to make your own kiawe energy bars with Vince Kana‘i Dodge. He will share the benefits of kiawe bean pod flour. Naturally sweet, gluten free, and diabetic friendly, the flour is made from the dried pulverized bean pods of the kiawe tree, which is the most common wild tree growing on the Waianae coast. This event is suitable for all ages.

Kids 6 years and older can try out 9 trampolines, 3 double mini tramps, a tumble track, parkour area and more. Kids 5 years old do need to be accompanied by an adult.

Talk Story with an Astronaut: Flights of Inspiration with Former NASA Astronaut Mark Polansky

Listen to former NASA Astronaut Mark Polansky, who have piloted three space shuttle missions from 1996 to 2009, assisting in the development of the International Space Station. Attendees will also have the chance to talk to specialist instructors at Maryknoll School’s new Mx Scholar Program for STEM & Aerospace and interact with flight simulators, robotics demonstrations and more.

Meet the Monk Seals at The Waikiki Aquarium

Ask all of your monk seal questions every first and third Tuesday of the month at 3 p.m. Aquarium biologists will introduce you to the resident seals, Makaonaona and Hoailona.  Participants will assist with seal enrichment activities.  Designed for participants 7 and up, but anyone interested is invited to attend.  $7/person ($10/person for non-members).

22nd Science Symposium for Girls

Sacred Hearts Academy presents featured speaker is Naoko Kurahashi Neilson, an astroparticle physicist at Drexel University, Philadelphia, PA.  Her keynote Science Symposium address promises to “open the universe” to girls. Following the keynote address, girls will attend hands-on workshops, while parents participate in a "For Parents Only" session with Dr. Kurahashi Neilson.
