Living Marine Art Center has developed a unique tour through its fish exporting warehouse. Stick Puppet Pals Workshop

Create stick puppets from recycled cardboard, buttons, felt, fabric and trims. You can choose to make a person or an animal or a creature that falls somewhere in between. Start with a cardboard base for our animal or person, then add a face and clothes or fur. If there’s time, you can even create a story for your new puppet pal.

This “Art Stamping with Bamboo” children's workshop (for ages 7-12) with Ana Kon focuses on the traditional Hawaiian perspective on ‘ohe (bamboo) plant and its uses in the Hawaiian community. Explore bamboo parts and make printing stamps to create designs and imagery on a cloth place mat.   Thursday, March 2; 1:00 p.m. -3:00 p.m.

Monster Mugs

Students will learn sculptural techniques to create their own ceramic monster mug.  They’ll be taught how to build a mug form, then how to decorate their mugs to bring their monsters to life! After sculpting their pieces, students will color their mugs using underglaze. Pieces will be collected, fired with a clear glaze coat, and then returned on a later date.

Bring your cardboard art to life and create your very own automaton toy. Explore creating a moving crank with littleBits, learn to create a motor circuit, and use the circuit to animate your automaton. Instructor Ginette Alipio is from Little Oha Bitty Bytes. ***littleBits are electronic building blocks that allow kids to invent everything from alarms to robots.

Meet the Monk Seals at The Waikiki Aquarium

Ask all of your monk seal questions every first and third Tuesday of the month at 3 p.m. Aquarium biologists will introduce you to the resident seals, Makaonaona and Hoailona.  Participants will assist with seal enrichment activities.  Designed for participants 7 and up, but anyone interested is invited to attend.  $7/person ($10/person for non-members).

Floating Sculptures

Create sculptural collages inspired by artist Choi Jeong Hwa. Use recycled plastics, marine debris and other items to compose an organically shaped sculpture that will “float” just like Choi Jeon Hwa’s breathing lotus. Young artists will stretch their imaginations, learn some principles of design, and have a ton of fun while creating their own incredible art.
